MEMS Design Software: PennSyn

PennSyn is a software with graphical user interface that provides an automated design route from function specifications to fabrication of optimal fully compliant mechanisms. PennSyn uses the notion of maximizing the flexibility and stiffness of a continuum simultaneously through multi-criteria objectives for the topology synthesis of compliant mechanisms. The design continuum is represented using ground structures of linear truss and frame finite elements, which are easy and robust in implementation and help provide effortless extraction and transfer of optimal topologies into commercial CAD packages. PennSyn is implemented in Matlab 2000, which ensures its easy installation, use, customization and upgrade.

Design of new compliant mechanisms
Interfacing design and fabrication of MEMS
Optimization of existing MEMS

Advantages of PennSyn:
All-in-one tool for MEMS design: from idea to blueprint
Automated and interactive graphical user interface
Optimization of topologies

A full description of PennSyn is available upon request in a form of a published article. For more information please contact Alexey Melishchuk at the Center for Technology Transfer, University of Pennsylvania at: melishchuk@ctt.upenn.edu, or 215-898-9589. This software is available for licensing. Thank you for your interest in Penn technology.
