Kapton is DuPont's tradename for its version of polyimide film. So, Kapton is a "flavor" of polyimide, but with very specific properties, when compared to polyimides from other sources. In the case of barcode labels, the type of polyimide generally does not matter, since polyimide films do not shrink when heated. That is the major attribute required for bar code labels. Other critical features include uniformity of film thickness and surface smoothness.
