Heavily loaded machine table cannot be instantly started or stopped without jerking the machine frame. For example going around a corner requiers ramping down X axis feed rate before comming to complete stop and then slowly ramping up Y axis feed rate. Lots of machining time is lost in ramping up and down. But doing otherwise would cause loss of machining accuracy due to overshoots and excessive wear and tear of bearings and lead screws. This is the reason why typicl VMC feed rates are limited to about 1300 in/min. And ramping is automatically inserted into programs. My USP #5,665,412 makes possible almost instant (depending on the servo power available) starting and stopping of any size and weight table while maintaining the machining accuracy. The invention does not depend on arrangement on balancing masses. The machine costs less to
build(for the same work envelope) then the conventional VMC. Proof of concept model has been proven by NASA and is available for inspection. I also presented paper "Newton's third law no longer limits feed rates of the machine tools" at IMTS 98. I have discovered that my patent has been in 128 patents that have been issued since mine. It indicates that industry is taking the concept seriously, but my patent is so basic that nobody can get around it. The interstby the industry also indicates that it is not too far ahead of its time.
This is not my only invention, I just sold $560,000 worth of my patent pending position measuring instruments to the US Army.
Need investors to start a company to produce VMC which break feed rate speed limit that is currently imposed by the Newton's third law. It is interesting to note that cutting tools do not limit speed of machining aluminium because it is quite soft and excellent heat conductor. Its machining speed is limited only by the Newton's law which limits maximum practical speed for starting and stopping loaded machine tables.
