The air hard steels began life as structural steels. In England they were known as EN 30 (A,B.and C). In Germamy EN 30B was Din 1.5864,
A2 is 1.2363,. These steels were developed in the mid 1920s, as air hard steels. The change to a tool steel designation in the USA began around the late 1920's Iam not sure if the En 30b is still around. If it is, it will be under another designation. It does not show up in the 1998 Stahlschlussel.
Hope that this helps,
David
