1) Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I thought that viscosity had anything to do with the problem. I just used the viscosity reference to easily distinguish between the two oils you mentioned. I should have said "Mobil-1 oil" and "severely hydrotreated oil".
2) You bring up an interesting point about mixing synthetics that I have never heard before. I have mixed non-synthetic petroleum oils and PAO based synthetic oils many times over the past 10 years without a problem. Thanks for explaining it.
