Jeff;We,ve got an 86 toyota pick-up with 293,000 miles on it and all it has every gotten is multi-grade oil which was always "on sale".Have heard the "old-timers" using the kerosene trick but think mutible changes of oil would be much safer alternative;that is "if" your piston rings or valve guides were the problem to a rough idle to begin with.I would look for the problem elsewere.BTW we also use a block heater all year which we think makes a big difference in longevity for engine and battery and cost pennies a day to operate.Don Lauer
