As suggested under this topic, AutoZone does provide a free computer code read for an engine warning light. The clerk did not recogize my reference to 'malfunction indication lamp', but found it did qualify for their free check. As the gas tank was full and the gas cap was not missing, I did remove and replace the cap, and the light remained. The AutoZone cleck suggested he clear the lamp and for me to wait to see if the warning returned. I've taken several short trips since, and the lamp remains off.
