Regardless of answers to above, you need to get the computer code read to see what the problem could be. It could be an emissions component or could be something quite serious.

Your dealer can read the codes for you but may charge you to do so if you are out of warranty. I heard someone say once that Auto Zone can read the codes for you at no cost. Worth a try.
